To the right of the main portal of the church is a historically significant height reference point. Height benchmarks are used to determine the local height level in relation to sea level and are important when planning buildings, roads and bodies of water. The height mark at the church was determined as part of the Royal Prussian state survey in the years 1868 to 1894 and was an important starting point for height measurements in East Frisia. The upper edge of the benchmark today has a height of 8.312 meters above sea level.
