The ponds at Burg Herrnstein are open to hikers. Many species of birds such as swans or herons frolic on the ponds. You can observe breeding birds. Please take consideration of nature.

Even on a gray day in early December, I really liked the path. There are several giant trees that appear very old, most of them gnarled oaks or mighty beeches. I have also seen gray herons, cormorants, swans, Egyptian geese and a number of mallards.

The ponds behind the Herrnstein Castle are the real blasts of my tour. I stopped there on a rock at a dam between two ponds. Pure idyll on both sides - green overgrown ponds, swans, ducks, frogs and every now and then a fish leaps out of the water in exuberance. Except for me, not a single soul there, unfortunately you can only hear something from the street, otherwise it would be perfect.
