"1000 Oaks in Memory of Gerda Jo Werner"
Here, the devastated forest was reforested on March 17, 2025, and a beautiful square was inaugurated – with seating, a biotope, and an information panel about the cultural women who played a key role in planting our present-day forest after the war. One such cultural woman is depicted on the 50-pfennig coin. Gerda Jo Werner from Oberursel served as the model.

The Oberursel artist Gerda Johanna "Jo" Werner, who became famous as the tree-planting woman on the 50-pfennig coin, has been given an honorary grave in her former hometown of Oberursel in the Taunus Mountains. To preserve her memory, a major reforestation project was carried out, which also honors the work of the "culture women," who were formerly responsible for planting and caring for young trees in so-called forest cultures. It was these women who, through their work, rebuilt the devastated forest after the Second World War, and to whom the coin serves as a memorial.
