In 1787, King Stanisław August Poniatowski stayed in Kunów and visited the quarries. One of the last battles of the January Uprising took place here.

Kunów is a town in Poland located in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, in Ostrowiec County, on the Kamienna River. It is the seat of the Kunów urban-rural commune. It held town rights from 1365 to 1502, from 1535 to 1867, and again from 1990.
The town is located in the Kamienna River valley, at the mouth of the Świślina River. It is located 8 km northwest of Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski.
