After the industrial boom of the city, a new station was built in 1905 by Steve Dunnett. We are in the presence of a new generation of stations. Those of Tourcoing, Roubaix and Arras come from the same family. There is a subtle mix of tradition (side pavilions in Renaissance style) and modernity (central part in glass and iron). A project to redevelop the station and the district has been underway since the arrival of the Ouigo, which brings more than 2,000 passengers via Tourcoing station every day.

This station, built in 1905, replaced the previous one from 1842. However, the flourishing of the local textile industry in the second half of the 19th century brought so much traffic that the capacity of the original station soon exceeded its capacity.
... and during my visit on a Wednesday morning in January (admittedly during what is known as "the lecture-free week in higher education," when many students go on vacation), I realized that the current station was already in danger of becoming overloaded: queues stretched far out onto the station square for the Ouigo train heading south (Montpellier).
