Mdina is called the "city of silence" because there is no car traffic in the small city with almost 400 inhabitants, which is surrounded by fortress walls. It is quiet and contemplative here and when you walk through the small streets of the city, you sometimes have the feeling that you have been transported back to the Middle Ages for a few centuries.
