The city wall was preceded by an inner ditch, a high and steep wall, an outer ditch, which was partially dammed with dammed water and the field wall, which closed the fortification to the outside. In the late eighteenth century, technical progress had overtaken the desirability of such a fortification. Therefore, the city gates were dismantled and the ramparts transformed into gardens and parks, which today form an idyllic green belt around the city.
