The ironworks was founded in 1842 by the Magdeburg merchants Wagenführ and Helmecke and the entrepreneur Kayser in Vaethen. The great importance of the hut led in 1928 to the renaming of the place Vaethen in Tangerhütte.

Without the foundry, the town of Tangerhütte would not exist – the foundry on the Tanger River. Construction of the ironworks began next to Vaethen in 1842. The "Aus einem Guss" association is currently caring for some of these historic buildings from the foundry's heyday. Together with a landscaped park, two castles, the mausoleum, the art-casting pavilion, and an artificial waterfall, this unique ensemble is to be preserved.
