The tuff-built nave of the hall church from the 12th century was extended with bricks in 1796-98 after the retracted choir was demolished and covered with a new gable roof. The wooden bell tower, built in the core around 1550 on a square floor plan, has sloping outer walls.
The interior of the nave is covered with a wooden beam ceiling. The organ is on the gallery above the altar. It was built in 1870 by Marcussen & Søn behind the facade of the previous organ from 1799.
The St. Nikolai Church is a listed building.

Hollingstedt's St. Nicolai Church is partly made of volcanic tuff from the Eifel. It was built in the Romanesque style of the 11th to 13th centuries. Discover more about Hollingstedt's history in an exhibition in the "Hollinghuus" in the town center.
