The Roman Catholic parish church in Berwang, dedicated to St. James the Elder, belongs to the deanery of Breitenwang. Initially part of the parish of Imst, the place was transferred to the parish of Lermoos in 1423. In 1430 the chapel was enlarged, and the Gothic choir remains. The curacy was established in 1454. In 1731/1734 the nave was rebuilt, retaining the Gothic north portal.
