The church was built in 1857. Religious activities stopped in 1958 and the church was used as a warehouse. The tower was demolished in the following years.
In 1989 the church was restored, and a new tower was built in 1994, and overhauled in 2010.
From the churches I visited in the Shanghai suburbs this not only was a surprise find, but also one of the best maintained. But maybe the light flooding through the colored windows and the service in progress when I arrived gave it the special vibe.
