The Mariae Himmelfahrt pilgrimage church is a magnificent Gothic building in Maria Saal. Surrounded by well-fortified walls and towers, it stands on a hill in the customs field. The predecessor church was first mentioned in a document in 860 and was replaced by a Romanesque hall church in the 13th century. In the 15th century it was rebuilt in the late Gothic style. Inside you can admire many art treasures from all eras.

The Propstei- and pilgrimage church Mariae Himmelfahrt - Marienkirche or Maria Saaler Dom for short - in Maria Saal is a Roman Catholic church in the center of Carinthia, built in its present form in the 15th century in the late Gothic style. A previously attested church was probably built on the same site in the 8th century, which is why Maria Saal is one of the oldest sites of a Christian church and the starting point for the missionary work of Carinthia in the Carolingian era.
