First Narrows is the official name for the entrance to Burrard Inlet, Vancouver's harbor. The Lions Gate Bridge, a suspension bridge, was completed here in 1938. The bridge was declared a National Historic Site in 2004. The Lions Gate Bridge serves as a vital transportation link between downtown Vancouver and the neighborhoods north of Burrard Inlet. In addition to three lanes of traffic, there are pedestrian and bicycle paths on both sides of the bridge.

First Narrows is a traditional fishing location for First Nations people.

The Lions Gate Bridge crosses the First Narrows. Whether walking or cycling, the view is magnificent. To the west, the view extends across Burrard Inlet and the Strait of Georgia to the Gulf Islands, which lie off the coast of Vancouver Island. To the east, the high-rise buildings of the Vancouver skyline can be seen above the dense forest of Stanley Park and the striking roof structure of Canada Place. On occasion, you can watch large passenger and container ships leaving Vancouver Harbour.
