The Tartines rocks are one of the most important natural sites in the Ourthe valley. They are located on the right bank, just above the mouth of the Amblève, and are made up of highly straightened Tornais and Visen limestone, which have undergone different degrees of erosion. The youngest rocks remained in the shape of blades (the Tartines).

The Tartines are located on the right bank of the Ourthe, a little upstream from the confluence with the Amblève. They are formed of very straightened Tournaisian and Visian limestones, which have undergone differential erosion: the youngest rocks persist in the form of blades (the Tartines), the softer beds have disappeared.

Les Tartines (Dutch: the sandwiches) is a rock formation in the Ourthe valley near Comblain-au-Pont in the Belgian province of Liège. They are located in the Les Tartines nature reserve, which has been protected since 1949. The formation owes its name to rock plates that are folded in such a way that they protrude vertically from the rock face like upright slices of bread. Les Tartines consist of Carboniferous rock with alternating hard (competent) and less hard layers. The hard layers consist of dolostone and are less sensitive to erosion. The hard rock layers therefore protrude from the soft layers.
