The Grundlos lake is surrounded by the Grundlose Moor. The nature reserve is located in the south of the Lüneburg Heath, north of Fulde near Walsrode. It is one of the most beautiful areas for discovering the moorland in northern Germany.

How the lake got its name, there are various traditions. One of them relates to the oxygen-poor dark water, which looks like the lake has an infinite depth. In reality, the lake is only 2 m deep.

It is now believed that the Grundless Lake could have been created by a meteorite impact in prehistoric times.
