The "big falls" of the Potomac are only 25 m high, but it flows a lot of water - impressive. The rugged rock formation of the falls consists of slate and very hard greywacke. Observation platforms offer beautiful views and in the grounds of the State Park you can still learn something about the history of the place. As early as 1800, a bypass was built, which should be part of a shipping route through the Appalachians.
