The approach to Paro International Airport is spectacular. Planes can probably only land in the Paro Valley at an altitude of 2,200 meters when visibility is good. On the last 10-20 km, the pilots descend following the course of the ‘Paro Chhu’ upstream. It is breathtaking how the plane follows the bends of the river and finally lands on the relatively short 2,000 meter runway in front of the small town of Paro. Experts consider the airport to be one of the world's greatest challenges for jet pilots.
