Statue of Cosmonaut "Gherman Titov". On his first visit to Halong Bay in 1962, the island was named after him. But why the island is called "Ti Top Island" and not "Titow Island" is known only by the Vietnamese; o)

When cosmonauts were sought for the Soviet Union's upcoming manned space program in the summer of 1959, Titov was one of 3,000 military pilots who met the minimum criteria. He passed all the tests and from March 1960 was a member of the first cosmonaut group, which consisted of 20 young men.

The name Ti-Top might not be such a bad choice after all. Almost nobody knows Titow, you automatically think of Tito. And this is the island where you can climb to the top!
