Oberröttenscheid is a village of Wipperfürth. 1410 Röttenscheid is called for the first time. From a document of this year shows that the mayor in Eckenhoven, among others also from "Ruttenscheide" income refers. The map Topographia Ducatus Montani from the year 1715 shows three courts and designates these with "o. Rüttenschdt ". In the map topographic image of the Rhineland of 1825 is written as a place name "Rotterscheid". From the Prussian first recording from 1840 to 1844, the current name "Ob. Röttenscheid "used.
