The then most famous representative of the Ruhr mining industry, Emil Kirdorf, built the Streithof 1905-1907 as a retirement home. Kirdorf was a nationalist, revered Bismarck and later the Nazis. So Adolf Hitler came several times to visit the Streithof.
After the Second World War the strickenhof was first officer accommodation of the British army, then nursing home, later specialist clinic for addicts. Today the property is privately owned.

Retirement home for Emil Kirdorf, the general director of Gelsenkirchener Bergwerks-AG (GBAG) and co-founder of the Rhenish-Westphalian coal syndicate. Vacancy after Kirdorf's death in 1938, looting after the end of the war, then officers' accommodation, from 1951 a retirement home and from 1973 to 1999 a specialist clinic for addicts run by the German Red Cross.
