The Viktualienmarkt is a traditional food market in the heart of the Old Town, which developed from a former farmers' market on Marienplatz. Since its relocation in 1807, it has become a popular meeting place for locals and tourists alike. The market offers a wide selection of fresh food, delicacies, flowers, and regional specialties. In addition to permanent stalls and historic market booths, a beer garden and a maypole also characterize the scene. The Viktualienmarkt represents Munich's way of life, culinary diversity, and a vibrant market culture in the heart of the city.

Around 700 years ago, around 1315, Emperor Ludwig ordered the butchers to be banished to the outskirts, but over the years they have returned to the heart of Munich. The butchers have been driven to the edge of the city because of the unsightly odors of the slaughterhouse waste and the resulting diseases. There was a river and this was then used as a natural disposal system.

Since December 2020, Munich's Viktualienmarkt has had one more special feature. The siblings Sabine and Christian Kroiß open a very special shop in the Metzgerzeile with the equally special name: WILDE ZEITEN – Fine stuff from the game.
