In the former castle of the Counts of Schwarzburg and Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt is now the local history museum of the city of Bad Frankenhausen and the Kyffhäuser region. In this Renaissance building of the 16th century there are collections on the subject areas of the geology of the Kyffhäuser mountains, the natural history of the Kyffhäuserkreis and the historical past of the city and its region. Since 1993, the city's Historical Council Library has also been housed in the museum's rooms. In addition, a large number of special exhibitions are organized each year.
