St. Martin's Church in Burst – Neo-Gothic beauty with ancient roots. Built in 1852 on the foundations of a centuries-old parish, this church is a Neo-Gothic gem in the heart of Burst. Inside, you can admire murals, marble altars, and a historic organ. A place where silence, art, and history converge – the perfect resting place during a walk or bike ride through Erpe-Mere.

On Sundays, there's a large chicken stall where you'll work up an appetite and a craving for something to eat. I didn't expect it myself, but next time I know where to picnic 😉

The church was built between 1852 and 1855. However, the oldest mention of the church dates from 1117, the year the Benedictine Abbey of Vorst acquired the patronage of Burst, Bambrugge, and Vlekkem.

In 1908, the surrounding cemetery and its wall were demolished to widen the Oudenaardsesteenweg.
