This castle of Visigothic origin is located on the right bank of the Guadalquivir river, next to the current Triana bridge. It was built with a defensive mission.
At the beginning of the 19th century it was demolished to build a market and urbanize the area, giving shape to the current Plaza del Altozano, San Jorge, Castilla, Callejón de la Inquisición streets, etc.
After the archaeological excavations, a Museum and interpretation center of the Inquisition has recently been created in Seville.
