Located in the center of Strasbourg on the banks of the Ill, the museum has been housed in the Alte Metzig, the former Strasbourg slaughterhouses from the 16th century, since 1927. In 2007 the ground floor and first floor were rebuilt. The exhibits are on display there, covering the period from the Middle Ages to the 19th century.[1] In November 2013, additional rooms were added that deal with modern times and the industrial age between 1800 and 1949.
