The chapel was built after the plague epidemic of 1682/83, in which more than half of the inhabitants died. In their distress, they went in a procession to the "Friedens of Sin" and vowed to build a chapel there and carry out processions so that God would take the plague from them. Even today, this vow is probably renewed annually.
