On a plateau above the deeply cut Neckar valley, the Besigheim district of Ottmarsheim, surrounded by fields and meadows, lies protected in a valley depression. In its immediate vicinity, the Ottmarsheimer Höhe extends into the Mundelsheim district, which, due to its exposed topographical location, offers a wide view over the Neckar valley and was once of historical importance: According to archaeological excavations and dendrochronological studies, there was a Roman settlement here between the 2nd and 3rd centuries AD, the excavation findings of which have been uncovered so far include the cellar of a Roman estate and a Mithras sanctuary.
