The hike through a hut forest is always something very special. In the past, farmers drove their pigs into the woods in autumn so that they could feed themselves a thick layer of fat. Today the pigs stay in the barn, but many hat forests still exist. The ancient, gnarled trees with their sweeping crowns are great natural monuments.

The nature reserve is located east of Haren (Ems) between Emmeln and Tinnen. It protects an old beech forest with some very old trees. In the forest, which used to be grazed as Hutewald, there is a lot of dead wood, and there are many caves in the trees.
There is a very nice circular path in the forest. This is very recommendable.
