The internationally best-known museum of the Friedrich Schiller University is the Phyletic Museum. It was founded and inaugurated in 1908 by the city's most famous naturalist, Ernst Häckel, on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the University of Jena.

Daily 9 a.m. - 4.30 p.m.

This beautiful Art Nouveau building (architect Carl Dittmar) houses the Phyletic Museum and is a-founded by -Hermn Haeckel Museum of phylogeny in Jena .. The permanent exhibition includes the evolutionary hall (including pigeons, AIDS, cichlids, ontogenesis of amphibians) and several halls to the tribal history of multicellular animals including humans.

The Phyletic Museum deals with evolution and the theory of descent. This should be of particular interest to biologists, but the exhibition is aimed at the public and is designed so that everyone can get exciting information here. The example of pigeons and perches shows how evolution works. The Art Nouveau building itself is worth a look.
