The town is located about 9 km southwest of Česká Lípa. It is located between ponds in the beautiful landscape of the Mách region. Holany was created around 1200, the first written mentions are from the 14th century. Holany lay on an important road from Česká Lípa to Litoměřice. At that time, they experienced their greatest flourishing. During the reign of Charles IV. they were promoted to a city and received a municipal right, a city coat of arms and toll rights.

Holany is a town in the southwestern part of the Česká Lípa district in the Liberec Region. 564 inhabitants live here. Around the town there is a system of Holanské ponds. The first written mention of Holany dates from 1352 on the trade route between Litoměřice and Česká Lípa. It is included in the list of parish villages under the jurisdiction of the deanery in Česká Lípa and thus ranks the village among the seats of the region.
