Unless you're heading up (or descending from) Mount Gordon Lyon, you'll have to spend at least some time on the east side of the creek. Great patches of that trail and wide and offer firm footing for runners, but there's a perpetually washed-out section and a large, perpetual mud patch too.

So, even though there's also some mud on this side of the creek, runners may prefer the footing here. If this side of the creek isn't to your liking, there are a couple of small footbridges that offer opportunities to cross over to the other side.
