From this inscription it can be deduced that there probably existed a previous structure to the current church, of which we have no other news, it was probably a smaller church or a simple votive aedicule.
This hypothesis is strengthened by the presence of a stone column, surmounted by a cross, dated A.D. 1096; these columns were usually placed in front of places of worship.
