The historic town hall and the church form a valuable architectural ensemble on the market square. The building was erected in 1805/06 as a combined council and school building. The court was also housed here.
The town of Peitz has had a town hall since around 1600 at the latest. This was destroyed in the great city fire in 1610. It was probably - like the successor buildings - north of the old town church in the northeast area of today's market square.
