Great Shacklow Wood is a pretty woodland on a steep bank above the River Wye. As you hike underneath the dense canopy, birdsong, atmospheric light and wonderful fragrances combine. In spring, the woodland has abundant wild garlic and bluebells. Some of the trails are quite steep and technical, so take care. It’s well worth exploring nearby Deep Dale if you’re hiking here.

A pleasant wooded area with a variety of tree types. Be warned, depending on the route you take, there are some very tight bits of track alongside a long steep drop to one side.
