The memorial stands at the car park on the B 415 at the foot of the Hohengeroldseck castle ruins and is a contemporary witness of the 19th century: The historic building from 1827 testifies to the construction of the pass road as a gift from Grand Duke Ludwig for the integration of the Principality of Hohengeroldseck into the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1819. Directly on the road and not far from the "Burgkapelle" the construction of the pass road is commemorated.
At the castle you can read that stones from the castle were also used here. The engineer of the road was apparently Mr. Tulla, who was known for the Rhine straightening.
