Wheeler Lake is an alpine lake above treeline just south of Quandary Peak in Pike National Forest. The lakes are at the end of an old forest road, and they are a popular destination for both hikers and backcountry skiers. The lakes usually don't thaw out until late June or early July, making the wildflower season last well into the summer.

While this hike is on a forest road, the term 'road' should be taken with a pinch of salt. This road is packed with loose rocks and should be left to experienced drivers with a spotter, or just hike it. While somehow a Camry and Sienna are always at the trailhead, this one should be left to foot unless you have a dedicated off-road vehicle, like a Subaru ;)
