The forest around Blankenburg is overgrown with deciduous trees such as beech and oak trees. This is an important feature of the naming of the National Natural Heritage, because areas with contiguous deciduous forest stands are rare in Germany and need protection and security. On the circuit you have the opportunity to get to know a small part of the forest and its special features better. The Wegstreckeabetr amounts to about 2 km and can walk well on foot. On the way, 5 stations with special views and informative facts invite you to look and read.

The sessile oak (Quercus petraea (Matt.) Liebl., synonyms: Quercus sessilis Ehrh. ex Schur, Quercus sessiliflora Salisb.), also called winter oak (and holm oak), is a species of plant from the genus of oaks (Quercus) in the Beech family (Fagaceae).
In order to emphasize its membership in the oak genus, the hyphenated spelling sessile oak is also common - for example in botany.
The sessile oak was tree of the year 2014 in Germany.
