The basilica of the Madonna dei Miracoli is the destination of substantial pilgrimages. It was erected following the apparition of the Madonna to a humble farmer, Giovanni Cigana, in 1510. The building, built under the direction of the Venetian Franciscan Francesco Zorzi, presents itself as a harmonious whole of simple and linear forms: the succession of arches of the cloister, the semicircular elements of the tympanum, the lateral sails that delimit the crystal rose window, the statues that adorn the main facade, make the basilica an authoritative example of sixteenth-century architecture.

The arches that form the front porch to the main facade of the Sanctuary are of a later period as can be seen in a fresco inside the cloister which shows the original facade completely similar to the Venice church of Santa Maria del Carmine, whose inspiration derives from Venetian church of San Michele by the architect Mauro Codussi (1440-1504).
