The Brauner Hirsch is one of the most spacious houses in Görlitz's old town and was for a long time one of the city's most distinguished inns and breweries. The building was redesigned many times and received its current baroque appearance in 1722 under the general excise assessor Johann Christoph Pößner. A stone on the side of the house facing the market commemorates him. The previous building was largely destroyed in the city fire of 1717. The six keystones on the three Gothic arcades facing the market with the dates 1486 and 1539 with house stamps still commemorate him.
