The builder was the former Jesuit, then journalist, polemicist and founder of the Kölner Zeitung, Jean-Ignace Roderique. He was a well-known author of numerous historical and literary works, as well as an author of periodicals.
The chapel was primarily intended for the elderly (including his parents) of the La Vaulx district, to enable them to attend masses close to their homes.
The chapel houses the relics of Saints Emerentia, Albine and Saint Justus. Inside are the tombstones of the builder and his family.
