The castle fountain, also called the Neustadt fountain, was located in front of the entrance to the cold hole, the former entrance to the castle.

This reconstruction shows one of the 48 fountains in old Kreuznach (old town and new town). They provided the majority of the water supply for the citizens until the new water pipe for the whole town was put into operation in 1890. Before that, there were only a few supplementary water pipes (since Roman times).
This is the castle fountain, also known as the new town fountain. It was located in front of the entrance to the Kaltes Loch, the path to the castle. It was 28 metres deep and carried "good and plentiful water".
