A car-free cycle and footpath has been created on the former colliery railway between Dortmund-Derne and the Preußenhafen in Lünen. Shady and mostly asphalted with minimal slope. The Gneisenau area at the southern end of the route is now a park.
In the northern section (Lünen-Süd) there are some mining relics along the way as well as a detour to the Ziethenstr settlement. Information at achim-bartoschek.de/details/nw3_24.htm?w

The Gneisenau railway line
Former railway line from the Preussenhafen in Lünen-Süd to the Gneisenau colliery in Dortmund-Derne.
The railway line was opened in 1930 and closed in December 1987. As a combined foot and cycle path, it is easy to navigate and offers industrial heritage along the way, such as an exhibited rope pulley or, on the edge, the former Ziethenstrasse mining settlement. Start/end point is Preussenhafen/Gneisenaupark.
