The hexagonal castle dominates the town of the same name with its towers and well-preserved walls. Originally built to protect merchants on the nearby trade route, the castle now houses a youth hostel. In the inn next door you will find a restaurant and guest rooms.

Hohenberg Castle stands on a rocky outcrop rising 125 meters above the Eger on the outskirts of the town center of the town of Hohenberg an der Eger in the Fichtelgebirge. The castle is a station on the Castle Road, which runs two kilometers further south from Bayreuth to Eger.

The St. Elisabeth Church was first mentioned in documents in 1262. The "Freistatt" columns next to the church are evidence of a historically prominent place of legal security in ancient times.
The strong, solidly built bell tower with its Italian dome and lantern dominates. The bright ringing of the bells can be heard far into the Eger Valley and across the border to Bohemia.
