Chronology:
Around 1160 a three-aisled pillar basilica was built. In 1450, the beautiful Gothic choir was added to give it its present form.
1560 The entire congregation at that time publicly professed the Reformation under the priest A. Steurs, and the church was now evangelical.

In 1942 the big bell from 1638 was dismantled on the highest order. They wanted to melt them down and use the material for cartridge cases. At the end of the war, the bell was found in Thuringia, and it took until 1950 to get it out of the Soviet-occupied zone.
