In the years 1782–83, the largest barracks building of the future garrison town was built in the northeast corner of the then-constructed Main Fortress. On a floor plan of 155 x 65 m, a two-story building with extremely modest facades was spread around three arcaded courtyards, the only decoration of which are bossed entrance portals. He served the armies of various states and regimes for more than 200 years, with a tragic break in World War II. world war. It has been empty and decaying since the mid-1990s

The Dresden Barracks (Block H V - No. 18 on the city map), which lies to the north of the Great Fortress, is, alongside the Magdeburg Barracks, the largest barracks in the fortress. It was formerly called the Great Infantry Barracks and a map from the 1920s shows it as the location of Regiment 94.
