In the Aboretum Burgholz, scientists from the Bergische Universität are researching how the decomposition of dead wood from foreign wood species affects the ecosystems of German forests. The research results also take into account the no longer disputed climate change. So far, the climate in Wuppertal has been mild but rather cool. The researchers now want to find out how two or three degrees more affect the feel-good climate and the growth quality of the trees. Do other tree species have to be taken into account in future reforestation?!

Some people may find such deadwood stocks “untidy”. However, it should be taken into account that the so-called “deadwood” in turn offers a special habitat for insects and other things – and is therefore a valuable part of the ecosystem for the future development of flora and fauna.
