In 1381, Mensinge was first mentioned as a fief of the diocese of Utrecht. A hundred years later, the manor came into the possession of the Van Ewsum family, one of the most important families in the Ommelanden. The family had Borg Nienoord built in 1525.

Mensinge is an authentically furnished manor near Roden in the province of Drenthe. The house, which was privately occupied until 1985, can be viewed by visitors. The manor has a large forest with walking routes, the Mensingebos.

The Mensinge dovecote is the only existing stone dovecote in Drenthe. It was probably built in the eighteenth century and is very appropriately located on a field called 'de doevekamp'. Sheep used to graze here. There are hardly any trees near the dovecote so that the shy pigeons were not bothered by the rustling of the wind in branches and leaves.
