The MuseumPasseier am Sandhof in St. Leonhard in Passeier near Meran tells the story of the well-known Tyrolean freedom fighter Andreas Hofer (1767-1810).
In the historic Sandhof, the birthplace of Andreas Hofer, there is a very clear, modern and sometimes entertaining report about the most famous Tyrolean, the fight for freedom and rural life in Passeier: with the permanent exhibition “Heroes & Hofer” on the ground floor, a folklore area and a Open-air area with a typical Passirian heap farm.

St. Leonhard is the birthplace of a historical personality who played an important role in the history of Tyrol: Andreas Hofer, sand landlord from St. Leonhard and Tyrol's most famous freedom fighter, led the Tyrolean popular uprising against the Bavarians and French in 1809. He emerged victorious from battles several times, such as the well-known Bergisel battles near Innsbruck.
