The first mentioned in 1194 place until 1945 was lauenburgisch. By corrections to the border between the British and Soviet occupation zones (Barber-Ljaschchenko agreement in November 1945) came Dechow together with large and small Thurow (today districts of the community Roggendorf) to Mecklenburg. The former Dechower district Lankow was so close to the inner German border that he stood in the way of the construction of the border security facilities of the GDR side and was destroyed in 1976. Only Lake Lankow, the forest area Lankower Forst and a memorial stone erected in 2009 are reminiscent of the former village.
