Halfway through the cycle route through this nature reserve is a war memorial in the form of a gun turret of a Sherman tank. From 1902 to 1999, the Beegderheide was used as a military training ground. For two decades, two American Sherman tanks have served as a training object. The tanks were removed in 1986. A command panel of a gun turret remained behind. The Heemkunde Beegden Workgroup Foundation cleaned this dome and placed it along the cycle path as a lasting memory of the military training grounds.
